Defense Minister Todor Tagarev was on a visit to the State of Qatar at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister of Defense H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad al-Attiyah. The visit was on the occasion of the International Maritime Defense Exhibition “DIMDEX – 2024” and a maritime defense conference. The Bulgarian delegation, led by Minister Tagarev, included the Commander of the Naval Forces Rear Admiral Kiril Mihailov.
The development of mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation in the field of defense was the focus of the talks between Minister Tagarev and H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad al-Attiyah. The meeting was held on the first day of the visit to Doha, on March 2, as a continuation of the established constructive dialogue and excellent relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the State of Qatar. The two ministers discussed the possibilities for deepening the interaction in the military sphere and in particular in the field of military-technical cooperation and military education and training. Current security issues in the Middle East region and the world were also discussed.
Minister Todor Tagarev gave a lecture on “Black Sea Security” to trainees from the military academy “The Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defense Studies” in Doha.
As part of his visit to Qatar today, March 4, Minister Tagarev participated in the official opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the International Maritime Defense Exhibition “DIMDEX – 2024”, where the latest achievements and innovative solutions of global companies from the defense industry in the context of modern maritime security challenges.
The International Maritime Defense Exhibition “DIMDEX – 2024” is held every two years under the patronage of the Emir of the State of Qatar H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. On an area of 35,000 sq.m. 200 defense industry companies from Qatar, Turkey, USA, Italy, France, Germany, UK, China, etc. present the latest innovations and technologies in the field of maritime security, including military equipment and ships equipped with defense systems, as well as systems for cyber security, management, communications and surveillance of maritime space, combating maritime piracy, etc.
